Welcome to Hagerstown Junior-Senior High School.
It has been my privilege to be an administrator at Hagerstown Junior-Senior
High School since 1984. I believe that Hagerstown Junior-Senior High School
is the best kept secret in East Central Indiana. I challenge you to find
a school of less than 800 students that has more to offer. Our academic and
extra-curricular offerings are comprehensive. Our facilities are modern and
our student and teacher access to technology is among the best in the area.
For the last six years in a row the Indiana Chamber of Commerce has selected
our school as a “BEST Buy” school. This status speaks to the
quality of our teachers and the efforts of our students.
In 1991 we joined a school reform initiative called High Schools That Work. As a result we have stayed ahead of the curve. We implemented increases in our core course requirements long before mandates came down from the state requiring schools to do so. All of our students have an education that provides them with rigor, relevance, and relationships. Increased rigor requires us to give all students the extra help they need to succeed. We provide our students with before, after, and during school extra-help opportunities for individual assistance. We provide all students with student resource time every other day. During this time all teachers are available to tutor individual students who might be struggling with a concept or assignment. We are able to access many outside resources as the result of being a member of the Wayne County Communities in Schools.
In the last four years, over 80% of our graduating seniors have received an advanced Indiana Diploma due to our extra-help efforts. In the last ten years we have had four National Merit Finalists and six Commended students. Three of our students have been honored by the Indianapolis Star as Indiana Academic All-Stars, two among the top forty and one among the top eighty-eight.
For the above reasons it is easy for me to say, “It is great to be a Hagerstown Tiger!”
Proud Principal,
Mark Childs
