The 7th Grade Band does not get a whole lot of time to adjust to Jr. High before they are put to work getting ready for performances. The first concert of the year is the Jr. High Halloween Concert. Showcased are both the 7th and 8th Grade Bands and the 7th and 8th Grade Choirs. Everyone comes dressed in costume and they even get to help pass out candy to the audience. As soon as the Halloween Concert is over, preparations are underway for the Jr. High Holiday Concert. The Bands and Choirs help everyone get in the holiday mood with some light holiday favorites. When the students return from Christmas Vacation, they are put to work preparing for the ISSMA Jr. High Organizational Contest. Members work to prepare three songs to perform for the judges and friends/family members who make the trip. Some students will also take advantage of the opportunity to perform in the District Solo and Ensemble Contest. For many, it is their first chance to perform individually or in small groups, with most all of the work done outside of the normal class time. Participation is encouraged and the students receive extra credit. The same program from the contest is performed for a home crowd at the Music Boosters' Spaghetti Dinner Concert. Here all of the performing groups of the Jr. High and High School showcase their talents while concertgoers enjoy a wonderful spaghetti dinner. The final performance of the year comes at the annual Spring Concert. The students get to perform even more challenging music and get to show off all that they have learned through the course of the year. At the end of 7th grade, many students may choose to participate in Summer Marching Band with the High School.
